KWAZULU-NATAL – The N2 northbound has been reopened following an accident which left one person dead.

A section of road near Salt Rock had to be closed following a head-on collision between a truck and a light vehicle.

Truck driver loses control

Emergency services on site confirmed that the driver of the light vehicle was killed instantly after collide with the truck.

It appears the driver of the truck was traveling in the southbound lane when he lost control and veered into the oncoming lane.

He was not injured.

The accident too led to the closure of the northbound lane to allow recovery of the truck.

A vehicle hits a tow truck

While emergency services were responding to the scene, another accident occurred due to the road closure.

A light vehicle traveling in the area struck a tow truck arriving on the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.

Social media users express their concerns

Social media users expressed concerns about the accident, focusing on truck drivers and their potential danger on the country’s roads.

Keith Goor said:

“We have to ask ourselves the following question: how can a truck driver lose control on a straight section of the N2? These guys are forced to drive long hours. Did he fall asleep at the wheel? Too many accidents result in senseless loss of life. Something must be done. »

“We need to ask ourselves why there are horrific truck accidents across the country every day. The statistics must show that there is a major problem.

“Too many trucks on the roads with too many inexperienced and arrogant drivers killing innocent motorists daily. Getting the railways back up and running will take 70% of these trucks off the road.”
