PIA flight attendant arrested for ‘smuggling’ mobile phones

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant was arrested by customs authorities at Islamabad airport after returning from Canada for allegedly trying to smuggle mobile phones into the country.

Faisal Majeed, who arrived on board PIA flight PK-782 from Toronto on October 24, was allegedly found with 16 mobile phones attached to his body during a search by customs officials. He was immediately taken into custody.

Sources revealed that Majeed was traveling on a tourist visa and was returning to Islamabad when he was allegedly delivered the new smartphones.

The PIA management issued a show cause notice to Majeed, demanding an explanation within three days, and initiated an inquiry against him. Failure to receive a satisfactory response could result in his dismissal, according to a PIA spokesperson.

“Your action has damaged the reputation of the national airline, PIA,” the administration said.

The national carrier emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards employee misconduct, with the spokesperson saying: “Any illegal actions by employees are unacceptable and we do not treat employees leniently.” people involved in illegal activities. »

The spokesperson confirmed that Majeed remains in the custody of customs authorities, who continue to investigate the matter.
