Northampton train station and roads closed by flooding

No trains stop at Northampton station.

Several roads in Northamptonshire have been closed and no services stopping at Northampton train station due to flooding caused by Storm Bert.

The Environment Agency has issued a severe flood warning for the River Nene at Billing Aquadrome and nearby business parks.

The warning was issued due to the rapid and deep flow of water and the rapid onset of flooding, which could be life-threatening.

Northamptonshire Police have also put road closures in place due to “significant rainfall during Storm Bert”. Drivers have been urged to only travel when necessary and avoid floodwaters.

Road closures concern the following roads.

• St Andrew’s Road and surrounding areas, Northampton

• St James’ Park Road, along Victoria Park, Northampton

• Areas of Dallington near Dallington Brook, Geddington and Kettering.

• London Road/Bridge Street in Far Cotton

• Bedford Road, Northampton

Roads around Northampton station have been blocked and there is no access to the station.

A spokesperson for London Northwestern Railway declared the: “Due to flooding in Northampton, services on the Birmingham – Northampton – Euston and Crewe – Rugby – Euston route are disrupted.”

Limited services operate between Milton Keynes, London Euston and between Coventry and Birmingham.

“No services are running from Northampton. Rail replacement services are unable to serve Northampton,” the spokesperson added.

Photos of the station showed the tracks covered in water.

North Northamptonshire Council said it was aware of a number of properties in the Corby area which could be affected by the weather conditions.

A council spokesperson said it had set up an emergency assistance center at Corby Cube to help those who may be affected by the flooding.
