Pueblo teachers may not get raises after failed ballot

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Teachers in Pueblo County District 70 may not get a raise as the 4A Ballot or Mill Levy Override is expected to fail.

This election issue would have given D70 additional funding that they were going to spend on fixing infrastructure issues and making teacher salaries more competitive.

Currently, D70 teachers earn an average of $42,500 per year, compared to the average of $68,250 for teachers in neighboring districts.

Money from this mill tax was also going to go toward major infrastructure repairs at D70, such as Pueblo County High School’s septic and sewer system, as well as a new roof for the school.

In a statement from a District 70 spokesperson, they tell us: “While we are disappointed by this, we respect our voters’ decision regarding the factory levy waiver. »

District 70 goes on to say, “Pueblo County School District 70 remains committed to providing safe learning environments and a quality education for all students. However, without this additional funding, we will face significant challenges in meeting our aging infrastructure and other critical needs. We will continue to prioritize student safety and educational excellence. We are grateful for the continued support of our staff, families and community partners as we navigate these financial challenges and work to find solutions that best serve our students and schools.
