The 6 Sydney Suburbs It’s Smart to Buy Now

Sydney has a lot to offer – affordable real estate isn’t one of them. In fact, we recently landed second place in the rankings the global list of the most expensive cities to buy a house. All things considered, there are still a few hidden gems across the grid where you can acquire a home for a(n) reasonable price, you just need to know where to find them. Real estate expert John McGrath (you know the name on all those SOLD signs?) has released his annual list suburban buyers should watch, and there are some great finds in there.

With the new metro lineand light rail already serves Dulwich Hill, it’s no surprise that Sydney’s Inner West is the perfect place to buy right now. Dulwich Hill itself made the difference, as did the neighboring suburbs Summer Hill. Once the new section of the metro line (to Marrickville, Dulwich Hill and beyond) is completed, it will only take a few minutes to get from Dully to Central.

Glebe and its beautiful little terraced houses also made the difference. While this suburb is certainly no secret, McGrath believes it has become somewhat underappreciated in recent years. Located right next to the city, with a village atmosphere, entertainment venues, leafy neighborhoods and good access to buses and trams, it has it all.

Point Millers was largely gentrified (RIP social housing, boo) by the time Barangaroo came to life. Plus, with a new metro station connected to the city, along a winding waterfront walking path, it’s best to pounce on this port suburb as price growth is down since Covid .

Two lesser known additions to the crowd are Eastern Lakes And Bardwell Park. The first is located just between Sydney Airport and Randwick, offering young families or first-time buyers the opportunity to purchase one of the many small houses or cottages for less than two million (which, unfortunately, equates to a good deal these days). The latter is about 30 minutes from the city and has Inner West charm and a beautiful expanse of nature to hike through – get on it before it becomes the new Marrickville.
