First day of IPL auction will have only 84 players, BCCI reveals last minute conditions for RTM and number of players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday morning laid down the guidelines for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction. A detailed schedule has been sent to the ten franchises regarding the proceedings over the two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. On the first day of the auction, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. IST, 84 players will be go under the hammer.

On the day the auction opens, the first 12 sets will be covered and the rest will be taken care of on Monday.

According to Cricbuzz, a guideline also concerns the value of an increased offer when a matching right card is exercised by a franchise. “The RTM bid increase can be of any amount – it need not be a rounded figure,” a pertinent notice on the BCCI note said, according to the report.

For the IPL 2025 mega auction, 14 RTM cards are available among the 10 franchises.

Bidding will begin with the first two marquee sets. The rosters are divided into two groups, each comprising six players.

The first group includes Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh pantsKagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are part of Marquee Set 2.

Once the marquee is set up, a lunch break will be taken on the first day of the auction.

How will the auction take place next?

After the lunch break, the capped hitters will first engage in a bidding war and then the proceedings will be on the all-rounders and wicket-keepers.

Once all this is finished, another 15 minute break will be taken. After that, the capped bowlers will go under the hammer.

The final set of Day 1 will feature the first uncapped players. Thus, actors like Faf du Plessis, Kane Williamson, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane, among others, will appear on the auction stage on Monday, the second day of proceedings.

The second day will collect all remaining players in the auction pool. The accelerated auction will begin after player #116.

Franchises will be asked to submit a list of 25 players for the accelerated phase.
