Tyler, the Creator Slams Taylor Swift Fans for Scrutinizing Her Controversial Lyrics, Calls Them ‘Racist’

During his recent show in Boston, Grammy-winning rapper Tyler, the Creator, real name Tyler Okonma, issued a “racist” warning. Taylor Swift fans who shed light on his old controversial lyrics from over a decade ago. On stage, Tyler openly spoke about “Swifties'” grievances against him regarding the lyrics of his 2011 song, Tron Cat.

As internet users extracted violent, misogynistic and homophobic lyrics from various songs, one in particular which Tyler mentioned was Torn Cat. He told the Swifties: “I made the Swifties mad at me with their racist asses – they bring up old lyrics, bitch, go listen to ‘Tron Cat’, I don’t care.”

With his latest album CHROMAKOPIA, released on October 28, 2024, Tyler dominated several music charts while making a name for himself thanks to his calligraphy and musical production. The album also features a plethora of guest musicians such as Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, LaToiya Williams, and more. However, this could have sparked her disagreement with Taylor Swift fans.

Tyler told his audience, “(Swifties) is going to bring out my old self.”

Chromakopia hit the streaming charts almost instantly after its release. The artist remained at the top of the Spotify global rankings for more than twenty-four hours until falling back to second place behind Swift on Thursday.

In the song Torn Cat, Tyler raps a line that caught the attention of the general public: “R*pe a Pregnant b**ch and tell my friends I had a threesome”. While the song has been available on all streaming platforms for over a decade, Swifties suddenly turned their attention to it.

Swift’s fans began criticizing and posting Tyler’s old lyrics after the rapper surpassed the Tortured Poets Department hitmaker for the first time this year on an international Spotify chart she’s been running all year. A specific Swiftie fan account on X (formerly Twitter), which blasted Tron Cat’s comments, received nearly 270,000 likes.

In these particular lyrics, Tyler raps about everyday violence which a portion of fans have described as stereotypically offensive lyrics. Another Taylor Swift fan quipped, “His fans spent all this time saying he grew up from these lyrics and apologizing, but now he’s doubling down.”

However, Tyler The Creator’s Chromakopia is planning to make a strong debut on the Billboard 200 chart and could become his most streamed and highest-charting album to date.
