The remains of a hunter have been found after a suspected attack on a bear in Alaska, authorities said.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 6:17 p.m. when Alaska State Police were notified that an overdue hunter named Tad Fujioka, 50, in the Sitka area of ​​Alaska – located in about 600 miles southeast of Anchorage — was reported running late from a deer hunting trip, according to a news release Wednesday from the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

“On October 30, 2024, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, USCG, and Sitka SAR conducted a land search using three search teams in the isolated wooded area that were transported by the AWT patrol vessel and the Sitka SAR vessel,” authorities said when announcing Fujioka’s death. . “Around 11:30 a.m., search teams located Fujioka’s remains. The investigation revealed that he was likely the victim of a fatal bear attack.

Authorities have not released any details about their investigation into how the assault happened, but confirmed that her body had been found and her next of kin had been notified.

The investigation into the bear mutilation allegations is currently ongoing.
