Dylan Guenther scores Utah’s goal in 4-2 win over Blues

ST. LOUIS — Dylan Guenther scored the go-ahead goal with 3:21 left to lift Utah to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

Guenther knocked away a pass from Jordan Kyrou to create a 2-on-1 break, and his shot deflected off the hip of a sliding Colton Parayko and over the shoulder of St. Louis goalie Joel Hofer to put Utah ahead.

Jack McBain added an empty-netter in the final seconds, and Matias Maccelli and Michael Kesselring scored Utah’s other goals. Kesselring scored 18 seconds into the game.

Kyrou tied the score on a one-timer with 6:31 remaining. Parayko also scored and Pavel Buchnevich had the first assist on both Blues goals.

Hofer made 27 saves for St. Louis, while Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka only needed to stop 13 shots.

Takeaways

St. Louis: Parayko has four goals in 14 games this season. He tied the score at 1 with a wrist shot with 1:19 left in the first period.

Utah: Utah held the Blues to two shots in the second period and 15 throughout the game.

Key moment

Kyrou made the key error just inside the Blues’ attacking zone, attempting a pass that was knocked away by Guenther and led to the decisive goal.

Key statistic

The Blues didn’t have a shot on goal during three minutes of power play early in the second period after a fight between Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Maveric Lamoureux. St. Louis also failed to score on two first-period power plays, including a 26-second two-player advantage.

To be continued

The Blues play Washington at home Saturday, the same day Utah closes a four-game trip to Nashville.
