American Airlines tests technology to reduce line cuts at boarding gates

American Airlines is testing new technology at three airports nationwide during the boarding process that aims to reduce the number of passengers trying to cut the line.

The technology, which is being tested at Albuquerque Sunport International Airport in New Mexico, Tucson International Airport in Arizona and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Crystal City, Virginia, alerts officials to boarding with an audible sound if a passenger attempts to scan a ticket before the airport. their assigned group.

“The new technology is designed to ensure customers easily receive the benefits of priority boarding and helps improve the boarding experience by providing our team with greater visibility into boarding progress,” said American Airlines in an emailed statement to The Associated Press.

American Airlines said a gate agent politely informs the customer that they cannot accept the pass and asks them to join the line when their boarding group is called. In some cases where a customer may board out of sequence, such as when traveling with a higher-status companion, the agent has a quick way to ignore the alert and accept the pass, American said Airlines in the press release.

Although the technology is still in its testing phase, the airline said it is satisfied with the results achieved so far.
