Shreveport Police Chief Speaks Out on Large Drug, Gun Seizures

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Police Department held a press conference at 4 p.m. Monday (Nov. 18) during which Police Chief Wayne Smith discussed what he called a significant seizure drug and firearms incidents that occurred last week.

Smith highlighted the specialized units that worked on the seizures and their ongoing efforts to get illegally owned firearms off the streets.

After receiving an anonymous tip about guns at a home in the Southern Hills area of ​​Shreveport, police say they took immediate action, leading them to make an unexpected discovery during their search.

Dozens of rifles and other guns and rifles lay on a table at Shreveport police headquarters. They were all discovered after a search warrant was issued Thursday afternoon.

Around noon Thursday, officers received a gun complaint at a home in the 9200 block of Biddle Drive.

When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with several people. During the interaction, a suspect – who has since been identified as 29-year-old Gunner Hendrix – fled.

Police pursued Hendrix and arrested him shortly after.

Officers then obtained a warrant to search Hendrix’s home in the 700 block of Woodvale Street. This search led to the seizure of

• 20 rifles,

• 14 pistols,

• 13 hunting rifles,

• 11 pounds of THC vials and,

• 10 pounds of ammunition.

For now, Hendrix remains in Shreveport City Jail.

SPD encourages residents to continue leaving anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. They say once a tip is submitted, officers investigate and it could lead to an arrest similar to this case.
