Released or not? Rishabh Pant’s dismissal in Mumbai leaves fans divided

Fans were left completely divided on social media after Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Ajaz Patel in a risky manner during the second innings of the Mumbai Test on Sunday (November 3). Pant was dismissed by Ajaz in the 22nd over when the Indian batter tried to defend going down the track. The ball hit his pads and went up into the air and straight into the hands of Tom Blundell.

The on-field decision was made and New Zealand decided to use the only remaining review to attempt to overturn the decision. The snicko showed an edge when the ball was close to the pads, but Pant argued that his willow hit his pads at the same time. However, the 3rd umpire would say it was a deflection from the start and awarded the wicket to New Zealand.

Pant was completely dejected by the appeal and took the long way back to the pavilion, where he continued to claim that he had not touched the ball with the bat.

The decision would certainly divide fans on social media, with some siding with Pant, while the rest would think it was over. Many felt that the 3rd umpire made a wrong call and Pant was ultimately robbed.

While some said it was over, they would also praise Pant for his valiant knock on a track where the Indian batting order collapsed on day three. You can see some of the reactions below:

Rishabh Pant’s fantastic series against New Zealand

Despite his dismissal and his mannerisms, Pant can be happy with the work he did in the 3 matches against New Zealand. In 6 innings, Pant ended up scoring 261 runs at an average of 52.20 and a superb strike rate of 89.69.

Pant took the field in Mumbai on Sunday with the Indian run chase in disarray. India had lost 3 wickets for just 18 runs and had slipped to 29 for 5. The Indian wicketkeeper scored his fifty in just 48 balls and was the last hope for India to pull off a victory.
