The (international) majority of Ukrin is in favor of end-of-war negotiations… “Even if the land is confiscated, it must be over.”

A thousand days after the start of the war in Ukraine, more than half of Ukrainians hope to end the war even if they concede part of their territory, according to a poll.

According to a poll of 1,000 Ukrainians carried out in August and October by the Gallup polling institute, 52% of those questioned said they wanted to negotiate an end to the war as quickly as possible. 52% of those surveyed said

should be open to the transfer of part of the territory as part of the end-of-war negotiations.

38% of respondents said they should continue fighting until victory and were against the transfer of territory.

These results appear to reflect the fatigue of Ukrainians due to the prolonged war.

In a 2022 poll, 73% of respondents said they should fight until they win, compared with just 22% in favor of an end-of-war deal.

In last year’s poll, 63 percent said they should continue fighting and 27 percent said they should quickly negotiate an end to the war.

Gallup said it was the first time a majority of respondents in favor of the end-of-war agreement had reached a majority.

The Ukrainians’ previous preferred negotiating mediator appears to be the European Union (EU).

Seventy percent of those surveyed wanting to negotiate an end to the war said they wanted the EU to play a significant role in the negotiation process, while 63 percent chose the UK.

Forty-nine percent of respondents said they were from the second U.S. administration of Donald Trump.

The poll was conducted ahead of the US presidential election and received responses from presidential candidates from both parties, falling 5 percentage points short of the Democratic administration of Kamala Harris (54%).
