The cabinet division published a gazette notice with the names of six members of the search committee for the formation of the election commission.

According to the notice, the committee will be headed by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Besides, the other members are Supreme Court High Court Judge Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, Former Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Former Chairman of the Commission of Bangladesh Civil Service, Dr. Zinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.

Apart from this, as per the law, the committee also includes as members the Comptroller General for the post of Comptroller and Auditor General, Md Nurul Islam, and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Works Commission, Prof. Mobasser Monem .

In accordance with section 3 of the Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Act, 2022, this committee will recommend the names of qualified persons specified in the Act for appointment to the post of Chief Election Commissioner and other electoral commissioners.

On October 29, legal advisor Asif Nazrul told reporters that the journey towards the next national parliamentary elections had begun. A search committee was formed to form the Electoral Commission.
