“My neighbors keep blocking my route – I had to call the police”

One of the most common causes of neighborhood conflicts is parking.

If you live in an area where you have to rely on roadside parking outside your home, you’ll know how frustrating it can be to see other cars parked along your street. Of course, you are not allowed to park in front of your property if parking is on the street, but that does not remove the inconvenience.

You may dream of having a driveway that will allow you to never have to fight for a parking space again, but it turns out that even having a dedicated space on your property to park your vehicle doesn’t prevent arguments with your neighbors.

One man claimed that even though he has a driveway for his own car, his neighbors constantly disrespect his space and often block the entrance to his driveway, meaning he can’t get in or out as long as they have not moved their vehicle.

Additionally, the offending car doesn’t even belong to the people who actually live in the house next door, but rather belongs to a guest who frequently visits their house.

In an article on RedditThe man claimed he even tried to get the police involved after the car’s owner continually refused to move it – but he has so far failed to get them to be more respectful of his space.

He said: “My neighbors frequently have guests over, and one particular guest driving a late model BMW feels he has the right to park and block my driveway.

“The first time (it happened) I went there and asked them to move it; they said they would move it but didn’t. The second time I went there again -down and asked them to move it, and they agreed, but nothing.

“So I think it’s time to take matters into our own hands. I called the police, they will do absolutely nothing.”

In the UK, parking in a driveway is only an offense if there is a lowered curb, but this has nothing to do with restricting access to the driveway itself and is in place because lowered curbs are prohibited for parking.

Even if a vehicle only partially covers a fallen curb, the owner will commit a driving offense and could be liable to a penalty of up to three points and a fine of up to £100.

However, parking near a lowered curb is not illegal, even if it restricts access to a driveway. According to Confused.comThe police are unlikely to intervene in cases where parking on a lowered curb prevents you from moving your vehicle into your driveway, but if the parking problem prevents you from getting out, they may regard it as an anti-social behavior offense.

Antisocial behavior is defined by the Crime and Disorder Act (1998) as: “Acting in a way which caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to a person or persons not part of from the same household as the accused. »

Commenters on the post offered various solutions to help the man get out of his situation without doing anything that could cause damage to another vehicle or his neighbor’s property.

One person said: “Park the Jeep behind the BMW, then drink a bunch of beers. When they tell you to move the Jeep, tell them you can’t drive and that you are the only one insured. Come back tomorrow morning. »

Several other American commenters called for the man to have the car towed by a private towing company. In the United States, it is illegal to block a driveway, but it is often treated as a civil matter or a problem for parking authorities rather than the police.
