Beth Deck is a Framework-powered gaming handheld

DIY gaming handhelds have long been the province of advanced hackers, with custom cases and tedious soldering making them a project not for the faint of heart. (Beth Le) now offers us a personalized handheld for the beginner who can be assembled in 15 minutes and requires no soldering.

These Three 3D printed panels sit on a black surface. The white back features cooling holes (top), a green center plate holds a Framework laptop battery (middle), and the front bezel holds the speakers, controllers, and display (bottom). The claims may seem suspicious at first, but the fact that the build is powered by a Framework motherboard makes the dream achievable. Using an 8″ touchscreen and rehoused mobile device controller, the 3D printed case transforms the PCB and battery into an interesting alternative to a Steam Deck.

(Beth) recommends waiting until the next Revision 2 to create your own as she works to refine the model. She also suggests printing in PC or PETG because PLA is too fragile and ABS warping can be an issue for pogo pin tolerances. Either way, this is definitely a project to keep an eye on if you like to play on the go.

As you know, we like the setting here and the Cambrian explosion of high-powered custom construction it enabled. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Handheld powered by Framework either. If you’re looking for a different form factor, we’ve also seen portable all-in-ones, Keyboard PCAnd the tiles too.
