With the match in hand, Anthony Robinson checks in for the first time this season. Ward makes a few free throws for Coppin State, but then Ames goes in for a three-pointer and spins it for his second triple of the night. Taine Murray’s nightmare game continues. He has six turnovers and zero points scored. Anthony Robinson scores his first career bucket by going in for a layup. This game can’t get much worse for Murray, who fouls Ward on a three-point shot and Ward manages to put Coppin State over 40 points for the game. Coppin State finished the game on a 7-0 run, but Virginia dribbled out the clock and improved to 2-0 with a 62-45 victory.

Cofie takes the ball the other way and slams down a reverse dunk – the freshman is in double figures with 11 points and has his first career double-double with 11 rebounds. Oduro hits a three-pointer from the top of the key, Coppin State’s third three of the game. Taine Murray turns the ball over for the fifth time tonight and Ward gets an easy dunk on the other end. Ron Sanchez calls a time out.

Coppin State 34, Virginia 57 | 4:32 2H

Cofie is fouled and makes both free throws. Buchanan grabs a rebound off a missed Sharma three and passes to Ames, who takes it inside and hits a short jumper in the paint. Cofie gets a wide-open look from the right wing and drains the three for his first basket of the night. Brown made a pair of free throws. Murray misses a three-pointer, but Cofie aims for the takedown.

Coppin State 29, Virginia 55 | 7:24 a.m. 2H

Cofie is fouled inside and makes both free throws. Ames commits an ill-advised foul on a desperate three-point attempt by Zahree Harrison just as the shot clock expired. Harrison makes all three free throws. Virginia runs the high-low action and Cofie finds Saunders underneath for an easy layup. UVA runs the court in transition with McKneely feeding Saunders in the lane and he fouls and makes both free throws. Ishan Sharma throws a great pass down the court and finds Saunders for a transition layup. Coppin State missed its last seven shots and hasn’t scored in more than four minutes.

Coppin State 27, Virginia 46 | 11:02 2H

It’s a great start for Virginia to start the second half, as Dai Dai Ames makes a great block on a Brown layup, then McKneely lobs over Blake Buchanan for an alley-oop slam. Khali Horton gets a clean look from the corner and drains Coppin State’s first three-pointer of the night. Brown fouls McKneely on a three-pointer and he goes 2/3 to the charity stripe. Derrius Ward stops from the left wing and sends in three more for the Eagles. Buchanan catches his own miss from teammate Elijah Saunders and lands on the glass. Oduro scores on Buchanan in the paint as CSU begins to get into rhythm offensively, making three shots in a row.

Coppin State 24, Virginia 38 | 3:42 p.m. 2H

McKneely breaks free for another three-pointer on the left wing and he splashes it again. He made four of his six three-point attempts and leads all scorers with 12 points. McKneely plays great defense on Derrius Ward and blocks his last-second layup attempt. UVA finished the half on a 12-2 run and doubled Coppin State at halftime.

Coppin State 16, Virginia 32 | Half time

Isaac McKneely is starting to warm up. He scored three straight points out of the timeout and it was a 9-0 run for the Cavaliers who opened their largest lead of the game at 29-14. Coppin State stops the bleeding as Peter Oduro finds Dunn for a layup. Larry Stewart calls a time out.

Coppin State 16, Virginia 29 | 2:20 p.m. 1 a.m.

Power misses a clean look on a three on one end, then gives up a basket on the other end as Dunn drives toward him for a layup. McKneely has three ins and outs, but Saunders grabs the rebound and sends a putback jump hook. Toby Nnadozie draws two defenders down low and finds Dunn for a wide-open dunk. UVA responds with three more and this time it’s Dai Dai Ames splashing one from the corner. The Cavaliers have already attempted as many threes tonight as in their season opener and are 4/13 so far (31%).

Coppin State 14, Virginia 23 | 3:36 1H

Dai Dai Ames works around a Blake Buchanan screen and comes to his spot for a baseline jumper. Virginia had some issues figuring out that Coppin State 2-3 wide zone is running, but it could be as simple as shooting a few threes. TJ Power pulls up from the left wing and drills UVA’s third three-pointer of the night. Jonathan Dunn scores with a reverse layup. Ames makes a nice block and UVA pushes the ball in transition, leading to a foul and a few free throws for Saunders, who is up seven points to lead all scorers.

Coppin State 10, Virginia 18 | 7:39 1H

UVA’s two true freshmen are now in the ball game as Ishan Sharma checks in to join Jacob Cofie. Brown gets around Cofie and scores at the rim just before the shot clock expires. Virginia answers on the other end as Sharma finds McKneely on the left wing for an open three and McKneely drills it. Cofie blocks Khali Horton’s shot, but Horton recovers it and fouls Buchanan, making 1/2 free throw. Zahree Harrison drives on Sharma and scores through contact on the glass. Virginia turned the ball over three times in the final two minutes and already four times this evening.

Coppin State 8, Virginia 11 | 11:16 a.m. 1 hour

Blake Buchanan wins the first tip and we’re on our way here at John Paul Jones Arena. Cam’Ron Brown shakes TJ Power with a spin move and hits a fadeaway jumper for the first points of the game. Dai Dai Ames makes his presence felt with his first basket as Wahoo, stabbing into the paint and scoring with his left hand plus a foul. Coppin State is in a zone defense and UVA breaks it down as Elijah Saunders knocks down a corner three. Derrius Ward walks to the rim and fouls Saunders, making 1/2 free throws. Saunders gets the ball on the low block and gets into the paint for a short jumper. He has five of Virginia’s eight points to start the game.

Coppin State 3, Virginia 8 | 2:30 p.m. 1 a.m.

Dai Dai Ames gets the start for the first time in a Virginia uniform, replacing Andrew Rohde as the starting point guard. The rest of the starting five is the same as the season opener.

As published by the Official UVA men’s basketball Twitter accountRohde will miss tonight’s game with a back injury. As things stand, Dai Dai Ames will be the only point guard on the team. Expect Isaac McKneely to share some of the ball-handling duties tonight as well.

Some pregame injury notes for Virginia: As expected, it appears Christian Bliss will miss tonight’s game with a foot injury that also kept him out of the season opener. season. UVA interim head coach Ron Sanchez did not provide a timetable for a Bliss return last week.
