Child under 3 found locked in cage, police say

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE/Gray News) – Five people were arrested Monday after a child was found locked in a cage, according to police in Kentucky.

Carrollton detectives were working on a previous tip when they found the child in the 700 block of 7th Street.

Police said they found the boy, aged less than 3, in a padlocked wood and metal enclosure.

Detectives secured the area and executed a search warrant of the property. Two other children were removed from the home after an initial investigation.

Police arrested five people, identified as Brenda Chilton, 71, William Mahoney, 72, Codey Johnson, 29, Tammy Simmons, 52, and Shelby Turocy, 28.

The five suspects face numerous charges, including criminal abuse and wanton endangerment. Turocy faces additional charges for drug possession.

The police are continuing their investigation.
