Keke Palmer recalls how Ryan Murphy ‘teared’ her up on the set of Scream Queens

Kéké Palmer remembers being reprimanded by Ryan Murphy on the set of Scream Queens.

Addressing the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Sunday, November 10, the No the 31-year-old actress discussed some topics from her upcoming memoir Master of Me: The secret to controlling your narrativewhich will be published on Tuesday, November 19.

Palmer, who played Zayday Williams in Scream Queens for two seasons in 2015 and 2016, remembers missing work due to a scheduling problem — and the fact that the show’s co-creator, 59, wasn’t too happy about it.

“It was kind of like I was in the dean’s office,” she said, alleging that Murphy “torn apart” her for missing a day of filming.

“He said to me, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like that. I can’t believe you, of all people, would do something like that,’” she added.

According to Palmer, she was initially off the day she missed, but then production changed the schedule and she chose to honor a prior commitment rather than move things up for the new filming date.

The Nickelodeon alum thought she and Murphy had gotten over their problem until a few days later, an anonymous cast member made her think otherwise.

“I said, ‘Ryan talked to me and I guess he’s cool, it’s okay,’ and she said, ‘That’s bad,'” Palmer continued, feeling like her co- star had perhaps “tried to scare” him, which was a bit irritating.

Knowing that Murphy was a busy man and probably just concerned about making sure his business dealings went smoothly, Palmer wrote in her book that she hoped speaking up for herself and honoring her previous commitment would make the American Horror Story the co-creator also considers it “like a business”.

Still, she said all was not well on set — referencing a time when a white co-star who she identified in her memoir only as “Brenda” allegedly made a racist remark to her when ‘She Scream Queens was filming.

Brenda and another unnamed cast member were at odds, and Palmer claims he tried to resolve their differences by suggesting they “have fun and respect each other.”

“’Keke, literally, don’t do it. Who do you think you are? Martin f—— Luther King?’ » Brenda would have responded.

In her memoir, Palmer writes, according to the outlet: “What she said was so heavy, but I didn’t allow that weight to be projected onto me, because I know who I am. I am not a victim. It’s not my story, darling. I don’t care what she said. If I let what she said paralyze me, then she will.

Scream Queens was a horror comedy series that also starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Léa Michele, Abigail Breslin And Niecy Nash. Nick Jonas And Ariana Grande were also featured in guest roles.

A representative for Murphy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
