One person dies after fire destroys outbuilding in Cornelius

CORNELIUS Oregon (KPTV) – One person was pronounced dead after being rescued from a fire in Cornelius Wednesday evening, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

Around 7 p.m., crews responded to the 300 block of South Alpine Street for a report of a structure fire. Firefighters found a small detached building on fire and learned a person was sleeping inside.

Once crews were able to put out the flames and search the structure, they found the person. However, firefighters determined the person had died in the fire and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire investigators from Forest Grove Fire & Rescue and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are working to determine the cause of the fire.

According to firefighters, the structure did not have working smoke detectors.
