A man was hospitalized Wednesday evening after being shot by a deputy in Camas, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Ashleigh Valenzuela lives down the street. She said her family was going to bed when they heard gunshots.

“I usually try to spend time with my mom, so I was sitting in my living room and the next thing I heard was a gunshot,” Valenzuela said. “I kind of erase it. Probably not even five minutes later I heard a second one, five minutes later I heard a third one.

Valenzuela said she looked outside to see what was happening.

“We saw cops walking by and then, you know, we heard a fourth gunshot,” Valenzuela said. “Probably around 10:30 a.m. we heard a fifth gunshot. »

Around 10:40 p.m., an officer flew a drone over the property to assess the scene and found a man standing in front of a home. On Thursday, the man was identified by Camas police as Patrick Wetzel.

The sheriff’s office said they determined Wetzel had a no-contact order against them that prohibited him from being on the property and possessing a firearm.

Wetzel eventually got into a car that was in the driveway of the house, and shortly after 11 p.m., law enforcement approached the car in an armored vehicle.
