Why the media waited until now to admit that Harris ran a bad campaign

Something suddenly struck me as I followed all the accusations and blame-shifting. Kamala Harris losing heavily to Donald Trump.

As we watched her 107-day campaign, much of the media coverage was absolutely glowing, as she was portrayed as an inspiring trailblazer who would unite the country.

DEPRESSED MEDIA REACTS TO Trump’s VICTORY: HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

But about five minutes after Donald Trump was declared president-elect, a very different picture emerged.

Harris had run a terrible campaign, making all sorts of missteps and mistakes. She hadn’t done this, that and the other thing. She was not up to the challenge. She couldn’t meet the moment.

Now they tell us?

Doesn’t that suggest that journalists, commentators and analysts were covering it? That they knew the vice president was hesitating, making mistakes, and failing, and they weren’t being honest about it?

Well, here’s what that reminds me of.

During most of his term, President Biden was represented as a competent chief executive, perhaps lacking pizzazz, but more than capable of getting things done whether you like his politics or not.

Some age-related stories surfaced earlier this year, but White House officials and those who cover Biden assured readers and viewers that he was, in one sentence,

“sharp as a thumbtack.”

THE “WASTE” CAMPAIGN: WHY ERRORS AND DISTRACTIONS COULD MAKE THE RESULT EASIER

And then came the debate. Boom! The country watched as the president struggled to formulate coherent sentences against Trump, and he would soon be under pressure to be eliminated from the race.

At that point, many media figures said they had seen Biden’s mental acuity decline, and yes, it had often been hidden from them, but wasn’t it obvious? A few said White House officials had told them two years earlier that Biden was in no way capable of running for office. But of course, it was unofficial.

In short, even if the president looked confused or turned in the wrong direction, much of the press covered it.

And you wonder why media credibility is plummeting.

In Harris’ case, just as in Biden’s case, many journalists glossed over the harsh reality of their problems until it was no longer in their interest.

We obtain a large dose of this because of all the sniping between the Harris and Biden camps.

TRUMP CAMP CONFIDENT BASED ON EARLY VOTING, WHILE BLACK LEADERS SAY HARRIS IN FIGHT

“Democrats are directing their anger over the loss of the presidential race against Joe Biden, whom they blame for leading Kamala Harris to failure by not withdrawing sooner,” reports Politico.

“They say his advanced age, questions about his mental acuity and deep unpopularity put Democrats at a distinct disadvantage. They are furious that they were forced to embrace a candidate whom voters had made clear they didn’t want to – and then stayed in the race long after it became clear he couldn’t win.”

On the same site, columnist Jonathan Martin says “Biden supporters want to blame his loss on her. And Harris defenders believe Biden is undeniably responsible for creating the forbidden political environment that she proved incapable of overcoming.”

“How can Harris’ defenders complain about being dragged down by Biden when she hasn’t found a single substantive policy issue on which to break with the unpopular outgoing president?”

Furthermore, “where was the audacity?” There was no large-scale attempt at defensive politics and reassuring the country she would govern from the center and reject extremists from both parties… If the other side attacks you as a liberal without any clear vision and clear. sustained response, well, voters will believe the attacks. Given the scale of the difficulties she has faced – and, yes, the seriousness of this first internal poll – why not take a risk?

Some have suggested, notably from me, that Harris was too cautious and stuck to talking points. I’ve been arguing since the day she dumped Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. as Tim Walz would do nothing for the ticket; Today, many experts simply state this as fact.

An exception to the wait it out approach is this piece from mid-October at Axios:

“Many of Biden’s top aides remain hurt that the president was excluded from his re-election bid and are still adjusting to their supporting roles on the campaign trail… Some members of the Harris’ team says top Biden aides remain hurt. White House staff are not coordinating Biden’s messaging and timing enough to align with what is best for the vice president’s campaign.

The media has many responsibilities in the wake of this election, including how it underestimated Trump’s chances and his appeal to voters, and failed to understand why Harris’ party seemed out of touch with reality in the eyes of many members of the working class.

But painting a rosy scenario when things were actually bleak for Harris — even though she could have done nothing to stop Trump’s juggernaut — ranks right up there.
