Democrats are beginning a process of electoral dissection, as they seek to understand President-elect Trump’s resounding victory.

“I don’t know, and I think it would be premature for all of us to draw conclusions today. You have to look at the data before you can draw full conclusions. And yet you turn on the TV and everyone says , you know, what happened?” » Pritzker said.

In the 41st Ward, in the northwest part of the city, home to many city workers and police officers, voters turned the district red. It’s the only one in town that Trump won. Election results show he received 54% of the vote.

One business owner said it’s really problem-based.

“Trump was more willing to talk about the issues, the issues that affect the middle class, which includes, you know, this neighborhood,” said John Capesius, owner of Tavern on the Point.

“Food, gas prices, those are the major issues that everyone is talking about in northwest Chicago,” said 41st Ward Ald. » said Anthony Napolitano.

But Trump also received more than 45% of the vote in four other districts, including the 13th.

“I come back to the fact that all politics is local, and I think that reflects the migrant crisis and the migrants that are showing up at the doors of the 8th District Police Department,” said 13th Ward Ald. » said Marty Quinn.

Kamala Harris’ defeat frustrated many women.

“This did not surprise me. However, it is very disappointing to see that such a large part of the country continues to have such internalized prejudices, men and women, isn’t it? Against seeing a woman to lead”, 49th Ward Ald. » said Maria Hadden.

Democrats will spend the coming weeks and months soul-searching and analyzing the election, then determining how to handle another Trump administration.

The governor is ready to work with Trump or stand up to him.

“To all those who intend to deprive Illinoisans of freedom, opportunity and dignity, I remind you that a happy warrior is a warrior. You come for my people, you come through me,” he said. Pritzker said.

Pritzker denied speculation about possible presidential ambitions, saying he loves the job he is currently doing as governor.
