HC dismisses 11 complaints filed against Khaleda Zia during AL regime

The High Court today (October 30) dismissed 11 sedition and sabotage cases against BNP president Khaleda Zia that were filed during the ousted Awami League regime.

Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Syed Enayet Hossein of the High Court delivered the verdict after ruling on the rules issued for quashing the cases.

Senior Advocates Joynul Abedin, Advocate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Nasir Uddin Asim, Advocate Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Ragib Rauf Chowdhury, Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Advocate Md Zakir Hossain, Advocate HM Sanjid Siddique, Advocate Tareq Bhuiya and Advocate M Sabbir Ahmed. represented Khaleda Zia in court.

According to Khaleda’s lawyers, a total of 10 complaints were filed against her during the 2015 anti-government movement, including three with Jatrabari and seven with the Darus Salam police station.

Khaleda’s name was either present in the first information report (FIR) or included in the charge sheets in these cases. The proceedings remained suspended for a long period following an HC order, Khaleda’s lawyers said.

The HC on Wednesday dismissed these cases after announcing the rule on these cases valid following a petition by Khaleda Zia.

Meanwhile, the same HC court dismissed another sedition case against Khaleda over a comment on the number of martyrs during the liberation war.
