Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel said that Kumbhakarna, the brother of demon king Ravana, known for his long periods of sleep in the Ramayana, was actually an expert in technology and had spent his so-called period of “sleep” developing machines in his laboratory.

While speaking at a graduation ceremony at a college in Uttar Pradesh, the governor noted that contrary to popular belief, Kumbhakarna did not sleep for six months.

“Kumbhakaran was a technical expert who secretly made machines in his laboratory for six months so that the technology was not passed on to other countries,” Patel said while making surprising claims about Ravana’s brother.

The video was shared by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on X in an apparent mockery of the UP Governor. “This esoteric knowledge was passed on to university students during the graduation ceremony,” Shrinate said.

Further claiming that Ravana had barred him from appearing in public for six months, the governor said, “The work (of making the machines) has to be done secretly in the laboratory. »

“A rumor has spread that Kumbhakarna sleeps for six months and stays awake for six months,” she said at the ninth convocation of Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti Bhasha Vishwavidyalaya on Monday.

She mentioned that libraries are full of ancient books from the Indian knowledge tradition and encouraged students to read them. “These books should be translated into multiple languages ​​so that everyone can experience India’s rich heritage,” she added.
