Paul Mashatile brought before ANC integrity commission – report

The commission, chaired by Reverend Frank Chikane, reportedly summoned Mashatile on Saturday in Houghton.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has reportedly appeared before the African National Congress (ANC) integrity commission in a bid to clear his name of numerous allegations.

Mashatile was accused of purchasing a R28 million house in Cape Town in cash in December 2023.

However, he denied this, saying he did not own any property in Cape Town or elsewhere, except for a house he and his late wife bought with a bank loan in Kelvin, Johannesburg.

Mashatile also denied owning another property at Waterfall Estate, Johannesburg, which was allegedly purchased for R37 million in cash through his sons, who allegedly had tender agreements with the departments that he supervised as MEC.

He said he resides in a Waterfall property jointly purchased by his sons and son-in-law, Nceba Nonkwelo, using a bank loan, citing “better security” as the reason for his move from his Kelvin home.

Mashatile further denied being the subject of an investigation by the Special Investigative Unit (SIU), the Hawks or the Public Protector over an alleged “lavish lifestyle” allegedly funded by entrepreneurs .

According to him, these allegations constitute an attempt to damage his reputation.

“He must be held accountable”

Despite his previous denials, sources said Municipal press that the ANC integrity commission wanted to hear his views directly.

The commission, chaired by the Reverend Frank Chikane, is said to have summoned Mashatile on Saturday in Houghton.
