Signs alert public to Chinatown’s new security cameras

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Have you seen these new signs around Chinatown?

About 40 signs alert drivers and pedestrians to new security cameras that have been or are being installed in the Chinatown neighborhood.

The new high-tech, high-resolution cameras offer a 360-degree view, can track movement and are equipped with LED lights and sirens.

The city said HPD can make announcements over a speaker system and the digital recording is stored for 30 days.

More than half of the city’s 60 new security cameras have already been installed, with the remainder expected to be installed before the end of the calendar year.

The city said it’s a big improvement over the old analog system installed more than 25 years ago.
