Punjab Police seize 6 kg of heroin after record seizure of 105 kg of drug

Punjab Police on Monday said they arrested a man with 6 kg of heroin following their investigation into the transportation of 105 kg of the drug into the state.

A cross-border smuggling racket came to light on Sunday with the arrest of two associates of a Turkey-based drug trafficker and the seizure of 105 kg of heroin. Six weapons were also seized during the operation.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that during follow-up investigations into the transportation of 105 kg of heroin, police arrested Lovepreet Singh and recovered 6 kg of heroin from him.

“In follow-up investigations into transportation of 105 kg of heroin, acting promptly on back and forth links, Counter Intelligence, #Amritsar apprehends Lovepreet Singh, resident of Kapurthala and recovers 6 kg of heroin from his car,” a declared the DGP in an article on X.

Lovepreet Singh was to hand over the consignment of heroin he had recovered from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan to another drug peddler, Navjot Singh, who was arrested on Sunday.

Multiplier agents to increase the quantity of heroin

On Sunday, police arrested Navjot Singh, a resident of Guru Tegh Bahadur Colony in Baba Bakala, Amritsar, and Lovepreet Kumar, a resident of Kala Sanghian in Kapurthala in the case of recovery of 105 kg of heroin.

In addition to heroin, police seized a huge quantity of controlled drugs, including 31.93 kg of caffeine anhydrous and 17 kg of dextromethorphan (DMR), from the possession of the two arrested persons.

Both Navjot and Kumar were associates of Turkey-based drug trafficker Navpreet Singh, alias Nav Bhullar.

“Investigations revealed that the accused used these listed drugs as multiplying agents to increase the quantity of heroin four times,” Yadav had said on Sunday.

River route used for drug trafficking

According to the police investigation, the waterway was used to transport drugs from Pakistan.

Bhullar was running a Pakistan-backed cross-border smuggling racket using his associates camping in a rented accommodation at Colony Lady Road in Baba Bakala, police said.

The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 568 gm of heroin near the border in Tarn Taran district on Sunday.

In another incident, the BSF also recovered a drone from a field near Ballaharwal village in Amritsar.

On October 10, the BSF had recovered over 13 kg of heroin near the India-Pakistan border in Tarn Taran district.
