Widespread snow is expected in southern Colorado heading into the work week.

Tonight’s forecast:
A few showers are still near the Colorado/New Mexico border, but most of us will stay dry this evening. Snow showers will be possible in the mountains this evening, but will not yet affect I-25. At night temperatures will drop into the 30s for most of us. Around fifty people are expected throughout the region on Sunday.

Colorado Springs Forecast: Low: 33; High: 56;
Tonight temperatures will reach the 30s, but tomorrow we will be back in the 50s. Tomorrow evening we will start to see showers heading towards I-25 and this will eventually change to snow overnight. We will see the snow start at the higher elevations and work its way down to the springs. Closer to AFB, they might see between 2 and 4″. Closer to Fountain, it will probably be closer to a trace.

Pueblo Forecast: Low: 33; High: 64;
Pueblo will also drop into the 30s tonight, but 60s are expected tomorrow. You will see more of a rain/snow mix and if anything accumulates it will be closer to a streak. Pueblo is at a much lower elevation, which makes the snow transition more difficult, especially with these temperatures.

Forecast for Canon City: Weak: 37; High: 59;
Canon City will drop into the upper 30s tonight. Tomorrow the upper 50s are expected and the forecast looks similar to Pueblo. You will also see more of a rain/snow mix and if anything accumulates it will be closer to a streak.

Forecast for Woodland Park: Weak: 26; High: 48;
Woodland Park will be cool tonight with temperatures in the mid 20s. Highs tomorrow will only reach the 40s. Snow showers will begin in the evening and last through the night. By Monday morning, snow will have already started to accumulate and will likely impact the roads.

Tri-Lakes Forecast: Weak: 33; High: 51;
Tonight temperatures will drop into the 30s and tomorrow’s temperatures will be in the 50s. The Tri-Lakes region will begin to see rain first, then a transition to snow. We will see the snow eventually move south on I-25.

Plains Forecast: Weak: Upper 30s/Lower 40s; High: 1960s;
The Plains will be in the upper 30s/lower 40s for tonight. A few showers were spotted on radar, but they are expected to move out of the state overnight. Tomorrow temperatures will be around the 60s. We may see a few spotty showers tomorrow evening, but they will then intensify overnight and into Monday. La Junta and Springfield have the best chance of seeing a wintry mix and potentially snow. If something sticks, it will be closer to a trace.

Forecast for Walsenburg and Trinidad: Weak: 36; High: 57/60;
Walsenburg and Trinidad will reach the mid 30s for tonight and tomorrow upper 50s/lower 60s are expected. As for this storm system, we will see a few rain showers late Sunday night and early Monday morning. We will then move into snow early Monday morning. This will likely impact your morning commute, so plan accordingly.

Mountain forecast: Low: Less than twenty; High: Upper 40s/Lower 50s;
Winter storm watches are in effect for the Wet Mountains and Sangres. Anything above 11,000 feet will see several inches of snow and it will be heavy at times. We are currently seeing snow showers (Saturday at 10:00 p.m.), and will continue this through the night. Heavy snow will begin to accumulate once this storm system makes its way here, by tomorrow. Snow will start earlier and likely last all day. Mountain passes will be difficult to cross.

Extended Outlook Forecast:
Beyond this storm system, Election Day looks set to be sunny and warmer. The roads might still be a little muddy, so be careful if you head to the polls.

Wednesday brings even bigger changes, and this storm system could potentially have more impact than what we see on Monday. This system appears to be stalling across the state, which could lead to higher snow totals. This issue is still being resolved and things could change before we get to that point.
