Fake doctors open hospital in Surat, it closes a day after grand launch

Janseva Multispecialty Hospital has been established in Pandesara area of Surat

Surah:

Pre-empting the quacks who were running the clinics, a group of fake doctors opened a full-fledged hospital in Surat, Gujarat, and appointed senior administrative and police officials as guests at the inauguration without even speaking to them. The hospital was closed a day after its inauguration as the state government intervened to prevent any instances of botched treatment that could endanger lives.

Police said at least two of its five co-founders held fake degrees. Questions are also being raised regarding the qualifications held by the other three co-founders and the police are looking into the matter.

The now closed Janseva Multispecialty Hospital was built in Pandesara area of Surat and was inaugurated on Sunday. “BR Shukla, shown as a doctor with a degree in Ayurvedic medicine in the flyer of the inauguration event, has a case against him under the Gujarat Doctors Act and is a fake doctor,” a said police officer Vijay Singh Gurjar.

The senior cop said another co-founder, RK Dubey, who claims to have a diploma in electro-homeopathy, is facing a case under the Doctors Act. “These two are holding fake degrees. Another co-founder, GP Mishra, is facing three cases under the prohibition law. His degree is yet to be verified. We are also verifying the degrees of both other names on the invitation,” Mr. Gurjar said. .

The names of senior officials including Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal, Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut and Joint Commissioner of Police Raghavendra Vatsa appeared in the inauguration invitation, but officials reportedly said they were not unaware of such an invitation. None of them showed up for the event.

The hospital premises were sealed. “The qualifications of the other co-founders are being verified. Based on the results, further action will be taken,” the police officer said.
