MGCCC Basketball Announces 2024 Season

PERKINSTON, Miss. (WLOX) – The MGCCC men’s and women’s basketball teams hope to build on the successes of 2023.

On the women’s side, the Lady Bulldogs are coming off a historic year, as conference co-champions and Region 23 champions.

The Lady Bulldogs also finished last year with a trip to the national tournament in Casper, Wyoming.

They enter the season ranked 17th in the country and are picked as favorites to repeat as conference champions.

Head coach Hope Adams said the Bulldogs hope to build on last year’s success and go even further.

“With this group, we are young, so we have to give them room to grow. Right now, they trust the process, but they are very talented,” Adams said. “So we just stand in the fire and say what we’re doing is working. We just have to allow these kids to grow while continuing on this path so we can repeat.

The Lady Bulldogs kick off the season this weekend by hosting the Gulf Coast Classic.

On the men’s side, the Bulldogs have already started the season and are 2-0.

Last year, Gulf Coast finished 19-10 with a three-point loss to Jones in the Region 23 tournament final.

Head coach Owen Miller says he likes the group he has on the field this year and they know what it will take to get them back to the regional finals.

“I think it was good for our program and our kids really bought into it. We were one possession away from the state tournament the first year, so it was a good step,” Miller said. “Now we just have to continue to improve. I hope we can win the right to participate in the national tournament. Expectations are very high here and that’s a good thing.

The Bulldogs get the home opener Wednesday night against the University of Mobile JV.
