The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA Miami) culminates its 10th anniversary with a transformative expansion, acquiring a second location at 23 NE 41 St. in the Miami Design District, the former home of the de la Cruz Collection .

Providing an additional 30,000 square feet for the museum, the acquisition doubles ICA Miami’s facilities for exhibitions and permanent collection, public programming and education, allowing the museum to deepen its engagement and impact with the public and significantly improve its community resources. ICA Miami acquired the building for $25 million through a strong fundraising campaign backed entirely by private funds.

Since its founding 10 years ago, ICA Miami has driven the development of Miami’s cultural landscape and is a global leader in artistic experimentation and scholarship. Offering free admission and access to its educational programs, the museum has curated nearly 100 exhibitions, including world premieres at U.S. museums for established and emerging artists; supported more than 1,000 artists through exhibitions and acquisitions; attracted more than a million visitors; has curated a robust schedule of premier conferences, performances, screenings and seminars, and has expanded its global reach through publications, podcasts and other digital resources.

This expansion allows ICA Miami to continue the growth of its innovative exhibition program, providing increased gallery space for special exhibitions and dedicated space to create the Knight Foundation New Media Gallery, which will provide a platform for artists experimenting with emerging mediums and technologies. The expansion additionally provides ICA Miami for the first time with galleries dedicated to the museum’s permanent collection, which includes some of the most important works of recent decades and reflects a strong intergenerational and inclusive narrative of global contemporary art .

Responding to continued demand and rapid growth for ICA Miami’s educational and public programs, the new location allows the museum to create multiple state-of-the-art classrooms; spaces for lectures, lectures, symposia and performances, as well as a laboratory for the creation of digital and audiovisual media.

ICA Miami’s acquisition of the site, the former home of the de la Cruz Collection, preserves the building’s central and historic role as an anchor for Miami’s arts community and as a beacon of free arts in the Miami Design District. The museum will host educational programs and classes on site in the coming months, then undergo renovations before officially reopening to the public.

Providing a critical foundation for the acquisition and renovation of the building, the museum’s capital campaign has already received enormous donations from private foundations and individuals, including significant participation from the ICA Board of Directors Miami and significant in-kind support from longtime ICA Miami patron Craig. Blackbirds. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation awarded the museum a $5 million grant that supports the growth of ICA Miami’s commitment to digital innovation.
