If Halloween is synonymous with thrills and chills, it is also the ideal playground for fashionistas. However, this time of year, it’s not necessarily for those striving for red carpet perfection. It’s also for style enthusiasts who like to have fun with fashion by dressing in iconic pop culture looks for the festival. This Halloween 2024, Elsa Hosk was one of them. The Swedish model didn’t choose a Halloween costume from popular TV show characters or the usual monsters; his was “iconic” in every sense of the word. Elsa dressed as Princess Diana in one of her most famous looks; that of her famous revenge dress.

In Elsa’s Instagram photos, she is seen preening as she walks toward a car in a tree-lined alley, which was similar to the setting of the original photo. For her outfit, Elsa wore an off-the-shoulder black dress with a sweetheart neckline that gave a body-hugging fit and a trail that fell behind. Added to this were sheer black tights and black slingback pumps. Almost identical to Diana, Elsa also wore a pearl choker with a stone pendant in the center and a bracelet on one of her wrists. Also replicating the makeup, Elsa sported highly contoured cheeks with pink lips and kohl-rimmed eyes. The kicker was a short blonde wig with a shaggy cut, identical to the haircut that Princess Diana was best known for.

The story behind the original photo is what makes it so iconic. In June 1994, Princess Diana sported her most revealing look during a public appearance, a far cry from the dress code followed by the British monarchy. She wore it the same night Prince Charles confessed his infidelity to her on national television. Since then, the dress designed by Christina Stambolian has become known as the “revenge dress” because it said so much without her ever saying a word.

Elsa Holk made sure no one else’s Halloween 2024 costume could top hers, that’s for sure.
