IIT Kanpur celebrates 65 years of innovation and excellence with a focus on defense

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) marked its 65th Foundation Day with a significant celebration, bringing together distinguished guests and alumni to honor the institute’s legacy of innovation. The event featured Defense Minister Rajnath Singh as the chief guest, highlighting IIT Kanpur’s contributions to national progress and global knowledge.

The celebrations included a special focus on defense innovation, reflecting India’s vision for Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Minister Singh visited a showcase on defense research, products and incubation organized by the Startup Incubation and Innovation Center (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur, highlighting the advancements of 23 startups in areas such as autonomous systems and AI-based surveillance. During his visit, he spoke with the founders and research teams, praising their efforts to strengthen national security.

Professor Deepu Philip, who oversees the SIIC, noted that these startups are creating tailored solutions to meet national defense needs while setting new technological standards.

The event also featured discussions on India’s defense initiatives, including iDEX’s DISC 12 and Aditi 2.0, and the signing of strategic MoUs aimed at fostering collaboration on logistics and defense. military innovation.

In a symbolic gesture of commitment to sustainability and technological advancement, a tree was planted by Minister Singh. The Foundation Day celebrations began with a traditional Saraswati Vandana and a welcome address by Professor Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur.

He highlighted the institute’s role in promoting innovation and solving global challenges through research and collaboration.

Minister Singh outlined his vision for a self-reliant India, urging the youth to spearhead the country’s technological advancement, particularly in the field of defence.

He highlighted the importance of domestic innovations in reducing import dependence and highlighted the role of institutions like IIT Kanpur in promoting revolutionary ideas.

During the event, 18 distinguished alumni received various awards, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Young Alumnus Award, celebrating their significant contributions to society. The day concluded with a vote of thanks and the playing of the national anthem, marking a significant milestone in IIT Kanpur’s journey as a leader in education and innovation in India.
