In the last three and a half months, the government railway police, BSF and Tripura police have arrested around 435 Bangladeshi citizens and over 55 Rohingyas at Agartala railway station and various places in Tripura for illegally entering India . A spokesperson said BSF had intensified its operations to prevent infiltration and border crimes along the India-Bangladesh border and in the state.

Heightened security along the India-Bangladesh border

A BSF spokesperson said that after the unrest in Bangladesh, BSF had increased security along the 856-kilometre-long India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to prevent illegal crossings and crimes. Rohingya refugees from Cox’s Bazar camps in Bangladesh fled illegally to India, where more than 10,000,000 displaced Rohingya live since 2017. Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingya told Indian security officials that they had entered illegally in India looking for work and shelter.
