MANISTIQUE — Schoolcraft voters cast ballots in a number of races and a countywide mlage proposal. Here are the results:

DOYLE TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR

Doyle voters chose James Nelson (R) over Sue Hinkson (no party affiliation) for Doyle Township supervisor. Nelson received 247 votes (64.3%) while Hinkson received 137 votes (35.6%).

Administrator of the canton of HIAWATHA

Hiawatha voters selected incumbents Robbin J. Larson (R) and Cindy Jenerou (R) to serve as Hiawatha Township trustee.

There were two places available and four candidates.

Larson and Jenerou defeated challengers Gary Inhelder (no party affiliation) and Julie Gilroy (no party affiliation).

Jenerou received 635 votes (41.2%)

Larson received 550 votes (35.7%)

Inhelder received 189 votes (12.3%)

Gilroy received 165 votes (10.7%)

SENEY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL BOARD

Seney voters chose Jeff Puckett, Amanda L. Kitzman and Colleen M. Duflo for the Seney Township School Board.

There were three places available and four candidates.

Lawrence Vincent was the only starter since Puckett, Kitzman and Duflo were challengers.

It was a close race as the third and final open seat was decided by just one vote.

Puckett received 30 votes (38.4%)

Duflo received 17 votes (21.8%)

Kitzman received 16 votes (20.51%)

Vincent obtained 15 votes (19.23%)

ADMINISTRATOR OF THE CANTON OF MANISTIQUE

Manistique Township voters chose Sandra K. Doyle (R) and Elisabeth Lakosky (R) for the two available trustee positions.

Doyle retained his seat while fellow incumbent Kenneth Fagan (D) lost his seat to Lakosky.

There were two positions available and three candidates.

Doyle received 417 votes (40.7%)

Lakosky received 365 votes (35.6%)

Fagan received 242 votes (23.6%)

MANISTIQUE COUNTY COMMISSIONER CITY DISTRICT FOUR

Voters in Manistique City District Four chose incumbent Paul K. Walker as Manistique City County District Four Commissioner, edging out challenger Scott Nagy (no party affiliation) by 13 votes.

Walker received 351 votes (50.9%)

Nagy received 338 votes (49%)

OPERATIONAL MILEAGE OF SCHOOLS IN THE TAHQUAMENON REGION

Seney Township voters rejected the renewal of the school operating millage of 17.8939 mills, or about $17.89 for every $1,000 of assessed value.

The millage would have been collected over a four-year period, from 2026 to 2029, inclusive, and would also have increased by 0.1061 for every $1,000 of assessed value over a four-year period, from 2026 to 2029, inclusive, to to provide funds for operations. purposes.

If approved and collected in 2026, the millage would have raised approximately $3,930,000.

The millage was rejected with 49 votes (70%) against and 21 votes (30%) for.

SCHOOL TRANSPORT AUTHORITY MILLAGE

Schoolcraft County voters approved the renewal of a millage that will be levied each year in an amount not to exceed 0.5841 mills – approximately $0.58 for every $1,000 of assessed value on all properties located within the boundaries of the Schoolcraft Transit Authority to provide funds for all transit authority purposes. permitted by law.

The millage will be collected for a period of four years, from 2024 to 2027 inclusive.

The proposal is a renewal of the millage rate that expired in 2023.

The millage will raise approximately $250,000 in the first calendar year.

The millage passed with 3,022 votes (68.2%) in favor and 1,406 votes (31.8%) against.
