Police said 12 people were injured when they were hit by gunfire, while four others were injured during the incident, some as they fled to hide.

Several videos posted to social media captured what looked like numerous gunshots and showed people diving to the ground or taking cover in vehicles.

A statement released Sunday by the Alabama law enforcement agency announcing the arrest did not indicate whether authorities were still searching for other suspects, but it called on the public to continue sending in tips. relevant to the FBI.

According to radio transmissions from police officers sent to campus to investigate the shooting, it was initially suspected that there were multiple shooters.

“There are going to be two shooters at this time, maybe more,” an officer said in a radio call, according to transmissions provided by Broadcastify.

In a university statement Sunday morning, Johnson was identified only as a “non-academic person.” The statement also stated that the individual’s parents had been informed.

“Several others, including Tuskegee University students, were injured and are being treated at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery,” the statement continued.

State police added hours later that the person killed in the shooting was 18 years old. Shortly before midnight Sunday, Johnson’s name was released.

“Special agents are still gathering and reviewing information relating to the sequence of events that ultimately led to the shooting,” ALEA said.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators immediately. Authorities also asked potential witnesses to upload any digital files from the incident, including videos, to the FBI.

University officials said it was “finalizing student accountability and notifying parents.”
