Nike Executive Slusher Named CEO of USOPP

LOS ANGELES: Longtime Nike executive John Slusher was named CEO on Wednesday of US Olympic and Paralympic Properties (USOPP), the entity responsible for marketing and selling commercial assets for the 2028 Los Angeles Games and American team rights until 2028.

Slusher will oversee all revenue for LA28 and USOPP, including domestic sponsorship, consumer products, hospitality and ticket sales, LA28 said in a statement.

Slusher previously spent 26 years at Nike, where he led global sports marketing and oversaw the sportswear company’s athlete and property relations.

“John’s expertise in the global sports industry is second to none,” said Casey Wasserman, chairman and president of LA28.

“He is a great addition to the best team we have assembled to deliver an Olympic and Paralympic Games like the world has never seen.”

The position was last held by former LA28 CEO Kathy Carter and has been vacant since she left LA28 in December 2023.

The Los Angeles Games are privately funded through revenues from corporate partners, licensing agreements, hospitality, ticketing programs and a significant contribution from the International Olympic Committee.

The Southern California city, which previously hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984, said it would cut costs by using its existing sports venues and college campuses.

The LA28 budget is $6.9 billion.
