Both Henry Cavill and David Corenswet would look puny next to the First Brendan Fraser Superman We Never Got

Even though Superman is a beloved character, he also found some truly perfect real-life counterparts to bring him to life. That said, the first names that came to most fans’ minds must have been Henry Cavill and David Corenswet, as the former’s performance as the Man of Steel was widely acclaimed while the latter’s performance should do the same.

Although these names have received a lot of publicity, Brendan Fraser is a name that many may not know is related to Clark Kent. For a film that never happened, the actor was one of the test contenders for the role. And, whether you like to admit it or not, Cavill and Corenswet would have looked puny next to Fraser’s Kal-El.

Brendan Fraser Could Have Outshined Even Henry Cavill In His Superman Movie That Never Happened

Sometime in time, after the 1987 film Superman IV: The Quest for Peace audience brutally disappointed in every way which was then followed by another series of failed attempts to revitalize the character on the big screens – Warner Bros. finally called on the screenwriter at the time. According to Geek denthis script has entered various stages of pre-production under the working title of Superman: Overviewand notably ensured that every element of the Man of Steel’s origin was meaningfully represented and that every relationship introduced was explained in detail. But despite all the controversy its elements generated, the film was shelved, likely due to budgetary constraints.

However, among the countless other contenders hoping to land the role, one of the now big names who took the test for the role was none other than Brendan Fraser. However, The Whale The star couldn’t close the deal for herself. One of the reasons he found himself questioning his choice was because he didn’t agree with being always known as the Man of Steel.

When speaking to Howard Stern, he made his feelings towards her clear, saying (via Variety), “There was a sort of Faustian bargain there. I think inherently I didn’t want to be known for just one thing because I’ve prided myself on diversity throughout my professional life and I’m not a one-trick pony.Even then, not getting the role was just disappointing for him.

Sharing his feelings about not scoring the role and why the script couldn’t come to fruition, he said:

I was disappointed that there was an incredible opportunity that didn’t come to fruition. This had a lot to do with some shenanigans and studio politics. And probably, inherently, in my screen test. I think that’s why you test…they could kind of see that I was only 98% there.

But that didn’t stop the world from dreaming. At the very least, comic book author Marc Millar recently picked up his X handle @mrmarkmillar to remind fans of the opportunity lost by the studios to offer one of the best Kal-El films with Fraser in the lead. Posting an illustration of Fraser in the iconic costume, he captioned it:

We are weaker as a species because this didn’t happen 20 years ago.

Effortlessly, in the photo alone, the 55-year-old actor looks more canonically like the Man of Steel than ever, his resemblance being eerily the same as the Clark Kent in the comics. Then there’s his defined bulky figure, with bulging muscles, which further proves that even Henry Cavill‘sand David CorenswetKal-El would look puny in front of him.

That being said, recalling the commendable good work they could have done on Man of Steel, fans are now wishing that Fraser was actually cast. Overview and the film was not abandoned as callously as it was.

While, yes, the fact that he wasn’t cast in the role is something to remember before even talking about the abandoned film, fans still can’t help but feel like the studios took a huge L losing to Fraser. for the role of Clark Kent. That said, some also suggest that the actor could play this respective role or a similar role even now, if he gets the golden opportunity.

Overall, when it comes to the comments section of Millar’s post on X, here’s what these fans had to say about Fraser’s casting as Clark Kent:

With all of this, it’s undeniable to admit that even fans considered Brendan Fraser to be one of the most worthy suitors to bring Kal-El to life. At the same time, as many have pointed out, it is still not too late to right the wrongsand without the storyline Abrams developed, the actor could still be cast as the superhero in a different storyline.

Either way, if it ends up happening, it would inevitably be one of the most anticipated and best Man of Steel films to date.
