The search for a swimmer who was swept into the ocean on the New South Wales central coast, north of Sydney, has been suspended until morning.

Two rescue helicopters were searching for the person in the water off The Entry.

Emergency services were called to the beach at 5.15pm following reports that a person had been seen in the water.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving and Toll and Westpac Rescue Helicopters conducted land, air and sea searches.

This will continue tomorrow.
