The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the structure fire Friday at Wayne Central Middle School.

In a statement released Saturday morning, first responders say they were called to the school around 9:30 a.m.

Arriving deputies and firefighters observed smoke in the hallway and active flames inside a classroom on the second floor of the building, according to a news release. The fire was contained to a single classroom and extinguished by Ontario firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no injuries have been reported. Ontario and Lincoln fire departments were on scene, along with Ontario Emergency Medical Services.
