“In search of the present time” is the title of the 2024 edition of Philosophers’ Night, the annual event of Philosophy beyond the walls, which takes place on October 31 at the Monumental Complex of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples. Philosophers’ Night aims to bring philosophy closer to the general public, making it accessible and exciting. It is an event which takes place through a series of meetings, debates, readings and performances on philosophical themes to stimulate reflection on existential, social and political issues. A unique opportunity to: Democratize philosophy by making it accessible to all; Promote culture by stimulating reflection and knowledge; Create a bridge between past and present by updating classic themes in light of the challenges of our time; Promote dialogue and debate by stimulating the exchange of ideas and the construction of critical thinking. This year’s theme is “Combined time” in all social, artistic, caring and intellectual expressions. It begins at 5 p.m. in the courtyard, where readings of thoughts and questions will take place among the works of Raffaele Lucariello and Vivian Belmonte. It continues at 6 p.m. in the chapter house with a choral dialogue with the students guided by the philosophers Giuseppe Ferraro and Simona Marino. At 7 p.m., Sauro Longhi, engineer and full professor of automation at the Faculty of Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Marche, will discuss artificial intelligence and the future of robotics. At 8:30 p.m., Luca Signorini, principal cellist of the Teatro di San Carlo, takes us through his musical era. It ends at 9 p.m. with the Nocturnal Council, the Philosophical Assembly on the City, its expectations, its needs, its future. Philosophers’ Night does not end with a single event; a meeting reserved for high schools is planned for Wednesday, October 30 in the Filangieri Room of the Naples State Archives. In the coming months, a program of workshops and events will follow. Philosophy Hors les Murs is an educational practice imagined by Giuseppe Ferraro which operates in exceptional places, at the inner borders of the city, borders of voices, excluded or isolated and lost. An exterior closed inside. It is the order of the excluded in the inclusion. It is the moment for a new alliance of places of knowledge, so that the entire city becomes a school in a community of participation of voices.
