Derbyshire road and school closures confirmed after snowfall

Three roads are closed in Derbyshire after “significant snowfall” in the county, and two schools have been confirmed closed for the day.

Derbyshire County Council has confirmed that the A54 Cat and Fiddle, the A53 Ax Edge between Buxton and Leek and the A6024 Holme Moss from Crowden to Holmfirth are closed.

The authority said gritting work on main roads began at 0400 GMT on Friday and confirmed that all other main roads “remain passable with caution”.

Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth and Unstone Junior School in Unstone are closed, the county council confirms.
