$10 million for zero-emission homes in New York

Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $10 million initiative to advance the development of zero-emission single-family homes and townhomes in New York State. The program, titled “Building Better Homes – Zero Emission Homes for Healthier Communities,” will provide financial incentives to builders and developers, encouraging them to design, construct and market green and resilient housing options.

“New homes built to the latest clean energy and efficiency standards will ensure that greener, healthier housing is accessible to all New Yorkers while helping to pave the way for a more sustainable future,” said Hochul during an announcement in Albany. The initiative aligns with New York State’s aggressive climate agenda, which aims to reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels statewide.

The program, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will provide up to $7,000 per single-family home and $4,000 per townhouse, with additional funds for projects in disadvantaged communities. It will also support training for builders to meet clean energy standards.

With more than 10,000 new homes built each year in New York, the initiative aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission housing and contribute to the state’s goal of achieving two million climate-friendly homes by here 2030.
