Junaid Khan speaks about Maharaj’s suspension order. He was convinced that the film would be released

Actor Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, reflected on the time the Gujarat High Court imposed a stay order on his debut film, Maharaj. The actor spoke at a session titled ‘Kahaniyon Se Cinema Tak’ at Sahitya AajTak 2024, along with the film’s director Siddharth P Malhotra. For those who don’t know, Netflix’s Maharaj was in limbo after a Hindu group appealed to the court to ban the film’s release for “hurting religious sentiments.”

Junaid Khan believed that despite the film’s tumultuous starthe was convinced he would eventually get out. “When the stay order from the Gujarat High Court came, we were very worried. But we knew that Siddharth (P Malhotra) Sir had made the film with great care and respect. I was very confident that it would come out one day,” the actor said.

Maharaj director Siddharth said, “The journey of the film has been very difficult. The film is based on a book that has been on shelves for 13 years. The Supreme Court’s decision regarding the film can be downloaded and read. It is even taught in six universities. . In fact, a play called Maharaj was also performed at that time.

He continued, “My wife is a Vaishnav, many people working on the film are from the Vaishnav community. When a poster of this film was released, it was banned. We watched the trial live for five days. ” will be launched on 13th (June). After a week and a half, this film arrived on Netflix. As makers, even we didn’t know that the film was released.”

He said, “I would like to thank the Gujarat High Court for watching the film and saying that it is not against any religion. The film is good, which we already knew. I would also like to thank Netflix which, after the film was released, they re-uploaded the trailer and then the songs and it became number one.”

Maharaj was originally scheduled to release on June 14 on Netflix. After getting the stay order, the film was finally released on June 21.
