DREAMCLOUD PILLOW REVIEW: PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

DreamCloud launched in the UK in 2020 and is owned by the same parent company that owns major mattress brand Nectar, which launched in the UK two years previously.

There is currently a pillow available on the DreamCloud Websitewhich costs £85 for a set of two, and in the US it is available for $99. At the time of writing, you can buy this set for £65 and save 20% off the full retail price.

DREAMCLOUD PILLOW REVIEW: DELIVERY AND SETUP

I was impressed with the stylish packaging of the DreamCloud Pillow when it arrived and think it’s a great gift idea. The set of two pillows arrives vacuum-packed in plastic packaging – in a blue cardboard box with a ‘DreamCloud for the luxury of every night slogan on the front.

Upon opening the plastic packaging, both pillows immediately began to take shape. I left it for about four hours before trying the pillow, just to make sure it was fully formed. There was a bit of off-gassing to deal with – that is, that new factory smell you can sometimes get when items have been vacuum-packed – but that quickly dissipated.

DREAMCLOUD PILLOW REVIEW: DESIGN AND FEATURES

The DreamCloud Pillow is beautifully designed with a soft-touch quilted outer shell and blue trim around the perimeter of the pillow. While I slept with a pillowcase on this pillow, I felt like I could have slept without it because its surface is tactile and smooth in the hand.

Rather than a layer of memory foam inside, there is a pillowcase filled with pieces of memory foam. This gives you that traditional pillow feel, with the nice pressure relief and bounce of memory foam.

The pillow’s quilted outer shell is polyester, but DreamCloud made it breathable by adding cooling Tencel fabric. There is a mesh border around the pillow designed to help air flow in and around the memory foam filling inside the pillow. There is no logo on the exterior side of the pillow, but it has a zipper on the side and care instructions on a label inside.

Firm but supportive

I tested a wide range of down vs memory foam vs functional pillows vs latex pillows in the past, with my usual appointment being Panda Hybrid Bamboo Pillow. As I mentioned above, this medium-firm DreamCloud pillow was firmer than I’m used to and on my first night trying this pillow, I wasn’t 100% sure that it was made for me. It took me a few days to get used to the different feeling, but then I started sleeping peacefully on the firmer surface.

While the Panda Pillow has a piece of foam inside that creates an even pressure-relieving surface for you to rest your neck on, the DreamCloud is made from shredded pieces of memory foam. This means that even if you don’t get as even a pillow surface as you would with a single layer of foam, you can plump the memory foam to adjust it to your preferences.

I was able to get comfortable in its shredded memory foam design and find a position that suited me when sleeping on my side and back. I felt like it supported my neck and helped keep my body aligned, especially when I was lying on my back.

Unlike pillows such as the Simba Hybrid Pillow, however, the DreamCloud is not height adjustable, so this is something to keep in mind if you want to be able to tailor the depth of your pillow. Therefore, if you sleep on your front, you might find it a little too high.

Temperature regulation

I tested this pillow in October when the room temperature never exceeded 19 degrees. I have never felt too hot or too cold while sleeping on this pillow. Although the cover of this pillow is polyester, it features a cooling Tencel fabric that comes from a eucalyptus tree and helps wick away moisture.

The pillow also features a mesh border to promote breathability. I would recommend pairing the pillow with a breathable pillowcase to enhance this. I would also suggest making sure the pillowcase is large enough. The first night I tried using this pillow, I realized that my pillowcase was a little too tight, which meant the pillow was a little too tight in its case. I upgraded to a roomier pillowcase which made it easier for me to plump up the filling inside the way I liked it.

Care and maintenance

I was able to open the cover and see the inner memory foam padding of the mattress sealed in another envelope. The zipper on the side of this pillow makes it easy to remove the cover for cleaning. Unfortunately, you cannot machine wash the cover, only spot clean if necessary. There is a note inside the inner part of the pillow that houses the memory foam pieces that suggests plumping it regularly to maintain its fullness. Unzipping the pillow so you can get inside makes this easier.

DREAMCLOUD PILLOW REVIEW: VERDICT

The DreamCloud Pillow is well presented and good value for a set of two pillows which makes a lovely gift idea.

While the pillow naturally conformed to the shape of my head, I was able to appreciate how much its firmer tension supported me and I think this design works well for side and back sleepers. The pillow was never too high or too soft and allowed me to easily curl up and snuggle night after night.

Although you cannot remove the memory foam from its inner casing, being able to open the cover means you can easily re-inflate the memory foam to your convenience. You can’t machine wash the cover, but being able to remove the memory foam makes it easier to spot clean.

Overall, I think this is a good option for anyone who wants a firm and supportive memory foam pillow. Restless sleepers are likely to curl up and hopefully stay put until dawn.

DREAMCLOUD PILLOW REVIEW: ALTERNATIVES TO CONSIDER

If finding a memory foam pillow that doesn’t sleep too hot is your priority, the Simba Hybrid Pillow with Stratos the pillow is a great alternative. It comes with temperature regulating fabric that will keep you at the optimal temperature and has an adjustable design. The lid is also easy to remove and clean.

If you prefer a memory foam pillow with a more even surface, try the Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow. Its bamboo cover is thermoregulatory and naturally hypoallergenic.
