Embu: 1 person killed and another injured after police officer shoots customers in bar

Embou – Police in Runyenjes, Embu County have opened an investigation into a shooting involving a police officer at Nthagaiya police station.

Citizen Digital reported that a police officer allegedly shot and killed one man and injured another on Saturday, November 9, at a popular bar in Ugweri Market.

Preliminary reports indicate the tragic incident occurred when the officer, accompanied by a colleague, entered Vision Joint and attempted to disperse customers.

Witnesses said the officer opened fire at some partygoers who objected to his decision to order them out.

Catherine Nyaga, mother of the deceased, the policeman allegedly shot her son, Ephantus Muriithi Nyaga, 43, in the head, resulting in his immediate death.

The devastated mother claimed both officers appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the shooting.

Police said the second victim was shot in the neck and rushed to Embu Level 5 Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The body of Ephantus Muriithi was transferred to the hospital mortuary even as the two police officers were disarmed to allow investigations.
