John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight is released ahead of time on YouTube for Election Day

Jean OlivierIt is Last week tonight was released on YouTube ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election.

The 14-minute segment (below), in which Oliver gives his final thoughts on the election, was released on YouTube after its debut on HBO Sunday night. Instead of HBO’s usual four-day online release schedule, the episode aired earlier because of its importance on Election Day, a source close to the series said. The Hollywood Reporter.

In the segment, Oliver begs viewers to vote for Kamala Harrisparticularly far-left voters who may have been frustrated with the Biden/Harris administration’s handling of Israel.

“Look, I understand why this is so difficult, and I know there are some people who are not going to vote for Harris under any circumstances because of this issue,” he said. “But for what it’s worth, I was moved by some Muslim and Arab voices who also struggled hard on this issue and came to the conclusion, despite their pain, to vote for Harris. In Arizona, a coalition of community leaders released a letter explaining their decision to support Harris, saying a Trump victory would present extreme danger to our nation’s Muslims, all immigrants, and America’s pro-Palestinian movement. . I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Oliver continues: “I know this isn’t inspiring to hear, but politics isn’t always inspiring. It’s transactional. It rarely matches our greatest hopes and dreams. I’ll be honest, I really didn’t want the first vote I cast as an American citizen to be for Joe-damn-Biden, but here we are.

He added: “There’s one last thing I’m going to be really excited about on Tuesday, and that’s Donald Trump loses this election, he’s pretty much done. He’d be 82 next time and I think he’d be done… And that doesn’t sound great, does it? Wouldn’t it be great to live in a world where he was no longer an active threat, but simply a nuisance? …Where he can scream about ice cream machines and complain about windmills and we all have the opportunity to not give a damn about any of that? I want to live in this world so much and I hope everyone does everything they can in the next 48 hours to make this world possible.

This decision follows Oliver’s words he was frustrated with HBO’s delayed online release schedule, telling The New York Times in September: “It’s extremely frustrating for me. I wasn’t happy about it at all. What I love about having the show on YouTube is that we can reach beyond HBO subscribers. This seems really important to me. I really, really appreciate the fact that they’re doing this. I would prefer if they did it right after the show, like we always have, but I’m very grateful that they’re willing to continue doing it.

In this case, the decision to release early makes perfect sense, as the segment will likely no longer be relevant by Wednesday.
