MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Indonesia has received an invitation to join BRICS as a partner state, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia José Antonio Morato Tavares told TASS, confirming that the invitation had been accepted.

“Yes (we received the invitation). This is a positive development. Today we are already a BRICS partner state,” the diplomat said.

This status allows Indonesia to participate in the group’s meetings as a partner state, explained Morato Tavares. He added that in this role, Indonesia “will actively contribute and participate in all BRICS initiatives.”

After the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the group had agreed on a list of its partner countries, without their names being disclosed. Initially, invitations would be extended to these nations, and announcements would be made as soon as a positive response was received.

BRICS was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, and South Africa joined in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates became full members.
