RATHDRUM — The Lakeland Common School District will discuss its supplemental levy and potential next steps at a special meeting at the Lakeland High School commons at 6 p.m. this evening.

The levy narrowly failed Tuesday night, with 49.41% (10,241 voters) of voters approving the measure and 50.59% (10,485 voters) rejecting it.

The additional levy of $9.52 million per year over two years would have replaced the current levy that expires at the end of the school year. The funds represent 25 percent of the district’s $40 million budget, the majority of which goes to pay staff salaries and benefits. Levy dollars also fund athletics, extracurricular activities, school safety and security and much more.

Lakeland High is located at 7006 W. Highway 53, Rathdrum.
